Slight delay

You know how things can take a turn from where you think they should go??...well, that's what happened today. Our flight from Lincoln to Chicago was delayed, then further delayed, then cancelled. This wasn't exactly an easy situation because our itinerary was to go from Lincoln to Chicago to Frankfurt, Germany to Aberdeen, Scotland....and then take a ferry to Shetland. So after some very frustrating attempts to find another flight, we finally came upon this one...and believe me...it's not the ideal situation, but it will have to do.

The new flight leaves Omaha tomorrow morning at 6:30 AM so we have to be there at 4:30 (ugh!). We go from Omaha to Denver to Newark (double ugh!) to Frankfurt to Aberdeen. We will arrive in Aberdeen on Friday around 11:00 AM. Thankfully we booked the ferry ride with a one day cushion...so it doesn't leave until Friday around 7:00 PM, but we have to be there by 5:00. So if the moon aligns with Mars we'll make it.

To make all this happen, Leo came back to the airport in Lincoln to pick us up and we decided that it would be better if he took us to Omaha tonight instead of having to get up at 2:00 tomorrow morning. So as we were driving up to Omaha we called to get a reservation, but guess what's in Omaha tonight???...the freakin' College World Series! So I called multiple places and of course no one had any rooms available anywhere close to the airport. But one place did...by some total miracle. I won't say what price we had to pay (because they jack the price up for this event), but I will say that we are very thankful to have a room at all.

So Leo is heading back to Lincoln and it's past Wapner time. He took the north bypass around the airport because the baseball crowd downtown was a mess. That's all to report today I guess. Sara has been tweeting to United to vent, as the flight was cancelled not because of weather that they reported, but because of weather conditions in Chicago earlier which backed up traffic as usual there. United cancelled our flight because the plane was a regional jet with a small number of people. If we had been on a large plane, we would be in Chicago now.

Hopefully I'll have something better to report tomorrow!

  1. Just remember the old adage: It's not the journey....it's the destination. :)
