To make a long story short...we are in Scotland!! And how many boarding passes did it take to get here?? Believe it or not, a few are missing!

Our flight last night left from Atlanta around 4:30 and we arrived in Frankfurt at 7:30 this morning! Terra firma!!!! We didn't get much sleep last night...I probably got about 1 1/2 hrs of sleep and Sara got less than that. So guessing, I would say in 3 days I've had 7 1/2 hrs of sleep. Needless to say, my writing skills right now are less than adequate...so this post will be short since my brain is not functioning well.

Since I didn't sleep much on the long flight, about 2:00 AM I looked at the monitor in front of me and here are the interesting statistics I saw regarding our plane/flight:
speed: 605 MPH
temperature outside: -53 degrees
altitude: 33,939 feet
distance: at the half way mark
total miles to destination: 4,600 miles

So this got me thinking how totally amazing this all is: you can get in a huge metal cylinder with wings, and fly through the air 34,000 feet above the ground and stay warm, even though the outside temperature is 53 degrees below zero.

As I said, we landed in Germany at 7:30 this morning and the first thing we did was to get a beer...a large beer.

The flight from Frankfurt was delayed only slightly.

When we landed in Aberdeen we took a taxi from the airport to the ferry with a very colorful local driver. He was a bit rough around the edges and spoke with a very thick brogue accent...and was a hoot! When we told him we were going to Shetland and needed to get to the ferry, he said (spoken with a sing-song voice and a twinkle in his eyes, "oooh, so you're goin' to the ferry. If ya go to the pub across the street you could get merry with the ferry!"....and as he said the "merry with the ferry" part he was waving his hands over head with his fingers fllying. He continued, "and if ya have a few drinks and go back and forth on the boat (sway) ya won't know if it's because of the ferry or your pissed" (the Scottish word for "drunk"). Anyway this was pretty much the way the ride to the ferry went. Very entertaining to say the least!

Oh dear Lord, I have fallen asleep 4 times while typing this post. I will close and hopefully do way better tomorrow. We are getting on the ferry in about 2 1/2 hrs and it leaves 2 hours later...at 7:00 pm. We arrive on Shetland 12 hours later...tomorrow. I hope to have my wits about me by then.
