Carpe diem!!!

I awoke this morning to Sara yelling at me to get up...the sun was out!! Holy crimeny!! One slight detail...it was 5:00 in the morning!! But I jumped out of bed and we hiked about a half mile to see these amazing cliffs in a bay. I couldn't eliminate many photos that I took ...they are all amazing! So here they are...this is just what we saw at 5:00 AM:
Sunlight!!

This is where we are hiking towards (notice the old graveyard in the foreground):

We had to untie this gate to access a field to walk through:

Wild iris:

A field of thistle:

Sheep's wool blown or rubbed onto a fence:

Here's looking back at Jan and Pete's. Notice the peat fire burning (the smoke):

We headed down to the beach:

Patterns in the sand:

Artwork courtesy of the ocean (this is just water playing with the sand):

Then we hiked up this trail:

Coming back down:

View of Hillswick:

Another view of Jan and Pete's place:

I'm sending this off now...it's 10:00 AM. I'll write more later.

  3. I just caught up as well. These photos are amazing. I can't wait to show Delia the pictures of the baby seal in the earlier post. Glad you seem to be enjoying the trip.

  4. Incredible views. How old are those rock walls? Also, how old were the gravestones?

  5. Matt...I'm not sure how old the rock walls are...a lot of stones around here are from the Viking ages (including stones in the place we are staying) but the cemetery has stones back to the early 1700s...it was the cemetery for the family that originally lived in this place (the Andersons).
